This is a reminder that due to the Labor Day holiday we will be holding our September monthly meeting on the 2nd Saturday of the month. The September meeting will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 at 10:00am.

The meeting has been rescheduled for 1 week later, on Saturday September 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM.

  1. 2015-2017 WISCONSIN STATE BUDGET Gov. Walker released his version of the 2015-2017 Wisconsin State Budget this week. In the budget he moved transit out of the transportation fund and provides a small funding increase.
  2. ATTACKS ON EDUCATION The 2015-2017 budget contains deep cuts to K-12 public schools and the UW System, as well as the repeal of the Wisconsin Idea. Should MTRU join in on this fight?
  3. CMRT UPDATE An update on the campaign to fix I-94 and get a transit alternative to highway expansion.
  4. WISCONSIN AVENUE BRT CAMPAIGN An update and presentation on our goal of getting bus rapid transit (BRT) and capital improvements on Wisconsin Avenue.
  5. MILWAUKEE STREETCAR UPDATE A final vote on the streetcar was postponed at the February 2015 Common Council meeting, meanwhile a petition drive for a binding citywide referendum on the project is picking up steam. We will discuss our position on this project.
  6. FUNDRAISING The Milwaukee Transit Riders Union will be having a fundraiser at the Public House.
  7. T-SHIRTS A brief update on the latest T-Shirt order.
  8. COMMUNITY OUTREACH MEETINGS Jackie has prepared a schedule and reserved rooms at MLK Library for a series of Community Membership Drive events.

  1. VISION 2050
    SEWRPC will be holding the next round of VISION 2050 workshops in September. We will discuss the results of the workshops so far and the upcoming workshops in September.
  2. NEW BUS ROUTES
    As a result of the groundbreaking lawsuit launched by Milwaukee Inner-city Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH) and the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin (BHCW) against WisDOT there will be new bus service started to connect central city residents with jobs in the suburban and exurban industrial parks. Two routes will be starting this month. We will discuss what is being done to educate the riding public about these routes and what we could do to help spread the word.
  3. RIDE & REGISTER UPDATE & DISCUSSION
    We will discuss non-partisan civic engagement and outreach efforts centered around the 2014 midterm elections. Funding has been approved and fundraising activities are being scheduled.
  4. I-94 CAMPAIGN UPDATE
    We will provide a brief update on our efforts as part of the campaign to stop the expansion of I-94 between 16th Street and 70th Street.
